Containment 2024-Present
Containment is a project that documents ecosystems developed for pollution control and industrial management. Against all odds, these altered landscapes support life much like wild ecosystems do; however, their intimate proximity to the byproducts of civilization means that every plant, insect, and animal exists in constant negotiation with noise, light, toxins, and human infrastructure.

While my studio practice seeks to work in reciprocity with these spaces, I witness their natural inhabitants contributing to new beginnings through their inherent ecological roles.

Working in collaboration with, or drawing directly from, these environments, I create print works, photographs, and handmade papers using foraged plant matter, discarded plastics, and pollutants from the sites themselves. These works embody the fragile yet determined ecologies that have taken root within containment.

Smoke Signals (2024- Present)

The cliche verre prints in Smoke Signals are made by coating large glass plates with carbon soot. These plates are exposed on-site for days or weeks to wind, rain, insects, and animals, capturing delicate impressions in the soot, which I then transfer onto handmade paper crafted from foraged cattail and plastic waste.

Pond Studies (2025)

These cyanotypes are made on-site using foraged duckweed, found plastic materials, and masks sampled from traced satellite images of local retention ponds. Duckweed thrives in these nitrogen rich pond waters containing runoff from fertilized athletic fields and agriculture.
